Details

- On a hardwire connection in the Mozilla offices - addons installs are untolerably slow (ie, more than one minute before the countdown dialog appears) - This problem doesn't appear when using a wireless connection Steps to reproduce - Be on a Ethernet connection - Create a new profile - Use Minefield Nightly to initiate an addon install either from Addons.mozilla.org (or directly from the new Addons manager) - Click the "install button" - Wait about 1 minute before the countdown timer shows up - Installation can continue from there Why is it not the connection? - Performing the same steps under Firefox 2 displays the count down timer nearly immediately.
Should dupe either this bug to 414862 or dupe that bug to this one.
I can't reproduce this, at least not on windows. From "Add to Minefield" and including the Install dialog until "Install Complete" it takes 11 seconds (Adblock Plus).
I suspect it is actually related to the connection since I believe it was checked on the same machine using a wireless connection and it was no longer slow.
(In reply to comment #1) > Should dupe either this bug to 414862 or dupe that bug to this one. > Should have been bug 414682. ---- Also see, (Bug 414648#c0) > Congrats on landing the new "Get Add-Ons" work and the new addons interface. > It's looking great. I wanted to point out a few minor bugs that I've noticed: > > [snip] > e) Installation performance is currently unacceptable (not sure if it's the API > or Firefox) as it takes well over 2 minutes before the warning dialog is > displayed.
Geeze, sorry for the bugspam. I just now noticed that bug reporter that I just quoted is the same that started this bug ;)
I'm going to mark this as a dupe of bug 414682, there seems to be some network issue you guys are seeing that IT need to investigate. On a more general level there is not a great deal we can do in the client if the server is not reachable or slow to respond. The only possibilities that could help the user experience are already filed elsewhere as bug 414752 and bug 414795
