I can reproduce this, but it turns out that it's not actually a hang, and it's not Linux specific. After deleting my .mozilla directory, I started up Netscape 6 (commercial, sweetlou) from this evening. And waited. And waited. The nifty little animation on that page drives the CPU usage up to 100%. This seems to be particularly bad on Linux, but is also a problem in my Windows build, pegging the CPU and slowing UI responsiveness significantly. I think it's beautiful, but perhaps this isn't the kind of page we want to show our users for first impressions? ;) (We *are* emphasizing small and fast, right?) ;) For some more quantitative data, I clicked on the Tasks menu right after the page loaded. Nearly a minute later it dropped down, on my PII 266 128Mb machine. On my Windows PII450 256Mb machine, the menus took over 1 full second to drop down after clicking on them. Handing this back to Nisheeth as he might have a better idea who it should go to.

This bug is not longer occurs on Linux with 2000-06-14-08-M17 commerical build

Hm, still happening for me, exactly as before. My guess is that it depends on how fast your machine is. Mine's a lowly PII 266, and apparently it can't deal with this kind of stress.
