Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b3) Gecko/2008020514 Firefox/3.0b3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b3) Gecko/2008020514 Firefox/3.0b3
I've noticed the following a couple of times: I'm using Firefox normally and then, I close it. After a few seconds, the computer slows hardly down. Then I open the task manager to check out what's going on, and I see firefox.exe process is still running (though no Fx windows are still open) and with about 90-99% cpu usage.
It doesn't stops until I kill the process.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Fx and use it for a while.
2. Close Fx.
3. Check out the Task Manager.
Actual Results:
There was a firefox.exe process running at 90% cpu usage and it remained there at least several seconds (I didn't have the patience to wait any longer and killed the process).
Expected Results:
Just... quit.
It's not happening always, but in one day only, it happened 3 times for me, already.

This is normal depending on how many tabs you have open and what close option you use. If you have like 10-12 high res graphic tabs open and close firefox telling it to "Save and Quit" or just have alot of tabs open and save them it will take Firefox a minute or two, to save the state.
Otherwise if you are not using the "Save and Quit" button then I would ask if it still occurs in the Latest Nightly Build (which you can get from here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/
Thanks!
