User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 2.0.0.9 (20071031) Firstly , Auto-Save just saves a copy of the message every 5 minutes. I doesn't care about whether you have actually made changes. It just saves. Add a simple check to save the message only if it has actually changes. The save procedure needs to be multi-threaded if possible. Presently if your editing a message with 10meg+ attachment , the process of auto-saving takes WAY too long over a VPN or internet connection to an IMAP server. In these cases Auto-Save is counter-productive. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a new message . Type whatever you want. 2. Go away for an hour 3. The "Drafts" folder has 12 copies of the same message Actual Results: One copy of the message every n minutes regardless of wteher it has actually changed. Expected Results: Message should only get auto-saved if it has actually changed. If possible , auto-save should be disabled by default for IMAP accounts since most people are using IMAP thro internet. It creates problems when you are editing a message > 1 Megs.
> doesn't care about whether you have actually made changes That shouldn't normally happen, there is a check in place. I think there is a dupe out there for the "large-message auto safe problem".
Magnus, I don't seen exact match, of ether a fixed or unfixed bug. but there is Bug 319058 – Autosave should not autosave attachment Bug 9309 – option to have attachments auto saved to chosen location
You can scratch the check for changed message. Last i used upto Thunderbird 2.0.0.4 it existed with 100's of copies of the same exact message in my Drafts folder. But i just rechecked with 2.0.0.9 and it seems to actually check for changes now before saving. I am resolving as a dupe of bug #Bug 319058 since the other problem , autosaving of big mail attachments to IMAP drafts folder still exists.
