STR:
- creat a test bookmark
- create a new folder
- drag the test bookmark into the new folder
- right click the new folder in bookmarks menu or toolbar
-> 'sort by name' is disabled/greyed out
- repeat the last step (right-clicking)
-> 'sort by name' is usable (again)
above also happens when you dragged the item back out of the folder.
affected: bookmarks menu/toolbar
not affected: bookmarks sidebar, library
maybe a regression of bug 418156, but i don't have the bandwidth for proper regression testing.
perhaps some of our places guys got a clue =)

After closing/reopening Bookmarks Menu - the 'Sort by Name' is restored from the 'grayed' out condition.

Is there a workaround for this? Mano, have you had time to look at it?

the workaround is mentioned in the STR above:
- repeat the last step (right-clicking) => 'sort by name' is usable (again)

There's an interesting behaviour described in Bug 449170 comment 0:
> Closing and re-opening the Bookmarks menu *before* the right-click on some
> bookmark item does not fix this. You have to right-click a bookmark before
> closing/re-opening the menu will re-enable the Properties command.

Summary: "Sort by name" and "Properties" are disabled/greyed-out on folder after dragging item in/out of it → "Sort by name" and "Properties" context menu items are disabled on a bookmark folder after dragging item in/out of it [grayed-greyed-out]

i don't see this anymore and presume that this got fixed by fixing bug 433542 (like some of the other regressions introduced by fixing bug 403263).
anyone willing to confirm?

i think all bugs related to context menu items that are grayed out on first right click and working on second right clicks should have been fixed with bug 433542.
and i can confirm it
so fixed by patch in bug 433542

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".
In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.
Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.

Component: Places → Bookmarks & History
QA Contact: places → bookmarks
