Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; zh-TW; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032619 Firefox/3.0b5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; zh-TW; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032619 Firefox/3.0b5 The character '&' and other special characters does not display properly for a RSS bookmark on the toolbar. Instead, it displays a "&" html code for the '&' character. See this image for example: http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/1517/80364794eh7.png Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. save a bookmark onto the toolbar. 2. sometimes a title will show special characters 3. the characters are displayed with html coding. Actual Results: the html alternative is displayed rather than the actual character. Expected Results: should display correct character
Jonathan: please provide the URL of the feed you were trying to add. Thanks.
Judging by the title fragments, that would have been Engadget, which uses
&
, which tells the XML parser to hand us & rather than resolving the entity itself, which brings it down to the question of whether or not RSS 2.0 titles are HTML, about which we read tea leaves and sheep entrails and decided "no, they are not."
