Created by (chrisputtick@writeme.com) on Wednesday, June 10, 1998 12:06:46 PM PDT Additional Details : Mozilla sends mozilla@ as an anonymous FTP login, similar to IE which send IE@... It's a breach of netiquette, and, well configured (i.e. secure!) FTP servers will refuse entry if a email address is not sent. Updated by Garrett Arch Blythe (blythe@netscape.com) on Wednesday, June 10, 1998 1:48:30 PM PDT Additional Details : The problem is worse when dialing with a LITE version of the browser (browser only). There is no UI for entering the email ID of the person, but the pref is in the advanced pane....

Accepting that we must at least put the prefs into the LITE (no mail) version.

Looks like one for Gagan. We want to make sure we send the e-mail address as password for ftp login, if this is what we have done before?

This is a known problem with cases where we do not have an email address. I think the preference should default to whatever our anonymous email is. Accepting this for now. Will revisit later.
Setting all current Open/Normal to M4.
setting paulmac as QA contact for all gagan's bugs (sorry for the spam)
Component: Windows FE → Networking Library

Marking till Necko lands...
Per DP's suggestion marking these till M8. Though Necko lands with M7, we will be able to verify it for M8.
I'm moving this to target M9, Necko will be enabled somewhere during late M8 or early M9. We will need to get on this and it cannot be postponed past the M9 milestone.
Changing all Networking Library/Browser bugs to Networking-Core component for Browser. Occasionally, Bugzilla will burp and cause Verified bugs to reopen when I do this in a bulk change. If this happens, I will fix. ;-)

Deferred till FTP is up and running.
we can probably ditch this Mozilla@ stuff in favor for the true "anonymous" login. We should find out if ftp server admins use this info (like http user agents are used) for tracking or not before we throw the switch.

Chris. What do you consider the "correct" think to do in the case in which an anonymous login attempt is made? Keep in mind that mozilla (the client) is not a formal ftp client, rather it's a "browser" that millions of non-net savvy users use.
