Quoting David Baron from bug 35294:
"looking at the current implementation of insertBefore, it may not be
optimized for inserting documentFragments, something that probably could be
done. In particular, it calls insertChildAt for every child inserted. That
implementation *is* a peformance bug that could be improved (although it might
be a little messy)."

This bug has been marked "future" because the original netscape engineer
working on this is over-burdened. If you feel this is an error, that you or
another known resource will be working on this bug,or if it blocks your work
