I'd like to be able to manage my media downloads and playback. With HTML5 <video> and <audio> we'll be the app doing the play back, so it gives us this opportunity.
I'd like to see either:
1. A video manager, similar to the download manager, allowing pause/play/rewind/forward/mute/unmute etc. and possibly playing of any videos right there without changing tabs all the time. It's smart and knows that I want one video at a time.
2. Integrate this idea right into the download manager since it's so similar
3. At least make sure we have the right APIs so that extensions could easily do this.
I see a lot of advantages:
1. Privacy
2. Accessibility (external audio interferes with the other sound on your system that you need for text to speech)
3. Control, easy access and re-access of recently downloaded multimedia
If you ever surf the news on something like reddit like I do, you end up opening a lot of tabs, each trying to download a video at once. It can become quite unmanageable.
See also bug 448909 -- maybe this is part of the solution for that as well?
