The new Ctrl+Tab preview feature in Firefox 3.1 displays the favicon and title of tabs, just like the existing tab bar. But it overlays the icon on the window preview. It should display the favicon to the left of the title to match the tab bar.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. In Firefox, open some tabs to sites with favicons
2. Press Ctrl+Tab a few times
Actual Results:
Ctrl+Tab displays the favicon on top of the page preview, at the lower left.
Expected Results:
Why not display the favicon to the left of the page title, as the tab bar does?
Other commenters have noted the lack of congruence between the tab bar and
Ctrl+Tab, tweaks like this and bug 459303 will help.
In trunk Firefox 3.2a1pre Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090225 Minefield/3.2a1pre ID:20090225033705 , you've hidden the favicon in Ctrl+Tab altogether!
Let's review:
The Browser tab strip
* present the favicon + title above the window
* with current tab on lighter background in bold text
Ctrl+Tab
* presents title without favicon below the thumbnail
* in a different order
* with tab text in white and selected tab on gray background with black text.
* and doesn't match Windows XP Alt-Tab behavior either.
I don't understand where you're going with this feature, FWIW it's not working for me at all.

Reporter, are you still seeing this issue with Firefox 3.6.13 or later in safe mode or a fresh profile? If not, please close. These links can help you in your testing.

I'm now on Firefox nightly (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0b12pre) Gecko/20110207 Firefox/4.0b12pre) , where Tab Preview is disabled unless you enable browser.ctrlTab.previews in about:config. After doing so, I see the favicon is still on top of the thumbnail but now at the top right. That's an improvement, but it's still visually dissimilar to the tab strip, and the top right of the thumbnail is often where the site badging lies (e.g. GMail and Wikipedia).
So the bug is still there. I repeat my suggestion that Tab Preview should show the favicon next to the page title, exactly as it appears in the tab strip (Firefox's row of tabs near the top of the window), and that some UI/UX person should look at minimizing the other gratuitous differences between Tab Preview and the tab strip.
Also note the wild inconsistency between View > Show All Tabs and Firefox 4's new View > Tab Groups feature. It's good that ctrlTab.previews is disabled by default, because using one after the other is jarring.
These are major usability problems with a disabled feature, so prioritize this bug as low as you like. Or better yet make it INVALID by removing the Tab Preview code from Firefox 4. Thanks for all you do.

This bug has had the CLOSEME tag for several weeks and the date in the tag is far gone. If the reporter can still see this issue, Please retest with Firefox 3.6.x or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). Then please remove the closeme tag in the whiteboard, mark the bug against the proper version and comment on the bug.

I also think that the favicon should be shown just on the left of the title in both the tab groups and the tab preview in the Ctrl-Tab window. In the Ctrl-Tab window, the favicon is really quite hard to see. Just my opinion.

The favicon is correctly displayed to the left of the page title.

At least in the recent Firefox 24.0 release, I still see the favicon at the top left of the thumbnail and not at the left of the title. This is in the Ctrl-Tab panel. You must switch browser.ctrlTab.previews on in about:config.
