I think clicking in the field should either close the panel and put in the address or not select the locationbar.

You are not only able to focus the location bar. You can nearly do everything in the background.
Steps:
1. Move the browser window to the top-most position of your screen
2. Open "all tabs" panel or ctrl-tab and make it sticky by entering the search field.
Now you can open the menu, run any action you want e.g. opening new tabs which are not recognized by ctrl-tab.
Shouldn't we close the panel if the user clicks somewhere outside as what we are already doing on OS X?

I think we should use autohide mode. Probably, the current behavior makes very many bugs on its parent window.
