From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; m18) Gecko/20000801
BuildID: 2000080108
when trying to use the webwasher personal proxy (www.webwasher.com) using
automatic proxy config mozilla does not try to connect to the internet
direct connection works fine
per request of the bug 20145 making a new bugreport
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.install webwasher personal proxy
2. fill in automatic proxy config following url http://127.0.0.1:8080/proxyconf
(or other whatever you specified in the setup)
3. try to connect to the net
Actual Results: blank page
Expected Results: display a page
i'm not able to get the contents of the automatic proxy file
if anyone knows a way to get the content of the file i'll add it to the bug report
whoa... didn't expect people to start using it right away! :)
Anyhow... Pls. check http://www.mozilla.org/docs/netlib/pac.html#steps for a
list of steps needed to get PAC running for you. I will be updating the doc and
time permitting simplifying the steps more to make this easiar. But for now read
that and let me know if that solves your problem.
PS- Since I just checked in these steps you may have to wait till the content
actually appears on mozilla.org (I belive it happens every 6 hours or so)
ok so i downloaded a new nightly id : 2000080204
did a checkout of nsProxyAutoConfig.js
started mozilla with -console option
but i did not get the line telling me it loaded the automatic proxy config
and the proxy also was not contacted
so questions is this a build wich has the support in it?

<ahem> Gagan? :-)
xtra@ping.be - have you had better luck recently?
Gerv
nope still no luck
now using build 2000081804
i get the message that proxy autoconfig is registered at startup
but when activating proxy nothing hapens no url's get loaded at all
i realy would like to see this working
so would I. But sadly this works fine for me. :(
All I can say is add some dump (equivalents of printfs) in your proxyautoconfig
file and see what it says.
i'm not that good with javascript so i just attached the js file i used
as you will see it's verry basic just redirect to the proxy server

QA to me.
This feature was not working in the time frame of this discussion. If I verify
58030, then we'll see if the file's .pac file still doesn't work.
I looked an the enclosure, and it seems to be full of extra stuff. Is this what
the webwasher really gives you?

Summary: automatic proxy config with webwasher does not work → PAC: failes w/ webwasher
