Drafts folder is IMAP folder? Or local mail folder? (POP3 or "Local Folders") How did you check "multiple drafts mails in Draft folder"? Opened Drafts folder(click Drafts), and watched thread pane of Drafts while composition and draft saving? (1) Enable next option. Thanks for the step-by-step WADA, with the latest nightly this bug has been fixed, only one message appears, and it is removed correctly when sent. For the record .... It was a POP3 Draft folder. I also note that the draft folder never seems to be being compacted, mine is 40k of deleted messages, after just a few days with a new profile (I tend to hit command-s to save drafts frequently). Does it get compacted at some point automatically, or is that another bug? - Mitra

And once mail.purge.ask=false is set, you have to reset it from "Config Editor" to display dialog again, because there is no UI to reset it.
