After updating to today's nightly build (as of 2009-18-02), trying to type ANYTHING into the address bar causes FF to crash.
Note that if I use a clean profile, it does not crash.
There may be something in my history that's causing it to crash, but since moving from one nightly build to the another is the only variable, that suggests that something HAS broken, but that it doesn't crash unless some condition is met by the content of the history (or whatever). Well, plus, ANY crash is a bug, so clearing the profile is just a work-around.
I have made a backup copy of my profile under ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles. Would you like me to attach it?
I'm going to see if clearing history fixes the problem and report back.
Reproducible: Always

Yup. Clearing the history made it stop crashing. But unless the history file format has changed, and you forgot to add a converter from the previous format, then there's definitely a bug here.

Would you type about:crashes and copy any relevant ids to this bug. Probable dupe of bug 472450
sounds like a duplicate of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47245
people in irc say the problem might be solved in a few days (less then 72 hours).
disabling javascript.options.jit.chrome in about:config and restarting it solves the problem for the moment.
confirming that setting javascript.options.jit.chrome to false solves the problem. Of course it's impossible to go to about:config due to the very crash this bug is causing, so the way to do this is to change it in prefs.js in your Firefox profile folder.
FWIW, this still crashes for me on Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090219 Shiretoko/3.1b3pre
Marking as dupe of bug 472450

Yesterday, I found that clearing my history would make the crash not happen. Today (haven't updated yet), clearing the history doesn't help. Typing into the address bar either causes the background of the edit box to go gray, and not actually go to the URL when you hit return, or it crashes on the first character you type. I'm going to have to start Shiretoko with an empty session and do the update when the update comes out.
