User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009011913 Firefox/3.0.6
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.19 (20081209)
When composing message with HTML signature (clean HTML code with CSS embedded in body) in order to put it in Templates folder and reuse it after, everything is OK untill you include image in mail message.
After image is inserted and message saved in templates folder, attempt to open it and send (double click) results in garbled message with no image present.
Tested on latest Thunderbird with IMAP account (Dovecot) on Linux server.
Example of message preview in main window:

Example of opening garbled message for edit and send:

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. save message with html signature and embedded image in templates
2. open message for editing (double click)
Actual Results:
message is gone, yellow background
Expected Results:
message os original when composed, edit (change text, address, subject etc) and send
Tested with IMAP account and local account - behaviour is the same.

Can
Component: Message Compose Window → Composition
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
QA Contact: message-compose → composition
Version: unspecified → 1.8 Branch
What is your setting in the Tools > Options > Composition > General tab for the second checkbox, "For messages that contain 8-bit characters..."?
If this option is checked, it is caused by bug 307023. If it doesn't resolve the issue, can you attach the originally composed message (File > Save As > File, ".eml") before saving as templates, and then save the corrupted message as file after opening the template again? There is an "Add an attachment" link at the top of this bug report.
Tools > Options > Composition > General tab
second checkbox, "For messages that contain 8-bit characters..." was marked.
When I remove checkmark, messages are composed and sent from Templates folder normally.
Thanks, that solves the problem. I marked this bug as duplicate for 307023.
