Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.21 (20090302)
Thunderbird saves extra and unnecessary copies of drafts.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.create an email draft with gmail imap
2.as you write or as time goes by, save draft a multiple times
Actual Results:
Look into the local draft folder to see the multiple copies, as well as gmail folders. Also, enable auto-save to see this done automatically.
Expected Results:
One updated copy, in all folders, local and not. The fact that the first few saves usually don't create duplicates tells me that Thunderbird has some capacity to tell duplicates from non-related drafts, but it needs to be improved.
Happens most of the time, but sometimes not at first. If you work on an email long enough, it'll duplicate unnecessarily.

This is clearly a duplicate of bug 402132 ( which is marked as fixed )

And I can confirm the behavior - was not able to find duplicates (but I'm sue there are a few lying around)

Ever confirmed: true
Apparently those bugs identify GMail as the culprit. I'm not so sure as I'm up to date with version 2.0.0.21 (20090302) and it is still happening.

What do you mean by it? AFAIK, Tb has capability to save a draft mail in "single mail folder" only, which is pointed as "Drafts" folder in identity setting.
Do you use extension(add-on) to save in multiple drafts folders(e.g. IMAP folder when manual save, and local mail folder upon auto-save)?
Ok, I continued to do everyday work and purposely wrote an email and saved it multiple times and the problem hasn't reappeared, although at some point I couldn't close the window to the email-in-creation (I'm sure this is another problem).
WADA: I have two drafts folders. One right under my account name folder (locally kept data?), and another farther down under a folder titled "Google Mail" with a host of folders such as: All Mail, Bin, Sent Mail Spam, and Starred, along with the named Drafts folder.
I assume the latter is Gmail's Mail folders mirrored, and the prior "more of a local" representation, although I'm sure the details differ.
No, I don't use an extension to save to multiple drafts folders.

As Ludovic Hirlimann said in Comment #1, this bug is dup of bug 402132.

It's probably Bug 347693 or his friends. See dependency tree for Bug 347693.

Read Google Help articles relates to Gmail IMAP for Gmail IMAP's partiqularity, and read bugs listed in dependency tree for meta Bug 402793, please.
