Build 2000-08-09-08M18: NT4, Linux 6.0, Mac 9.04 Overview: In a New Message/Compose window attach a file and it doesn't appear in the attachment box. This makes it appear that attachments are not working. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a new message/Compose window 2. Select the "Attach" button 3. Select a file to attach Actual Results: After returning back to the New Message/Compose window, no attachment appears in the attachment box. Add another attachment and the second attachment appears after a blank line. Select the blank line (or resize the window) and the first attachment appears. Even if the first attachment is not shown, when the message is sent the recipient can see the attachment. Expected Results: The first attachment should automatically appear.

actually, I don't know about that. There's been a lot of attachment bugs today, but all seem slightly different.

It's just a refresh problem with the attachment tree. If you resize you window or click where the attachment should be displayed, you will then see it. Reassign to hyatt.

I'm wondering if this is just the same root cause as bug 45198...
nominated for nsbeta3 since the user's experience will be that they think that the attaching a file did not work properly. I guess worse case is that they attach the same file twice, but this bug will appear easily to be hit by most users who attach files to their email messages.

The testcase is equivalent to what is happening in messagecompose.xul. It doesn't have to do with box-to-block problems as I thought, just a tree problem.
