I would suggest/request that the volume slider be always visible (i.e. horizontal). In my experience, I use the volume control much more often than the video slider. I think the volume control could be x% (where x < 50%) of the horizontal space (e.g. 30%). That would allow a quicker and more intuitive access to the volume.
