Because of some filter rules I've new, unread messages in inbox subfolders. In "Smart folders" mode, the relevant inbox indicates these unread messages, although I'm not able to see these messages in Smart folders inbox view (because they are in subfolders...) Is this intended? IMHO it's confusing.

it's not intentional - it's just that those folders are the real folders, and so they're paying attention to the same notifications as the normal folder pane. I don't know if we have a way of distinguishing between the deep unread count and the shallow unread count in folderPane.js - I'd have to look at the code.

Is the problem not more because when the inbox is put in the smart folder is is not shown under the account any more - and in the smart folder no sub folders are available? Suggest: Leave the all folders put into a smart folders in the account tree as well. (It would help if the count could also be corrected as you say above).

Oh .... Just found https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=490691 "Since we're showing you your special folders in the smart folders account, we can hide them from their actual accounts." My request is to not hide them (an option perhaps): - once I am working in the account I don't want to go all the way back up to the top to get at the e.g. Inbox - it makes moving items (drag and drop) into folders in the account difficult.

After a quick check - yes. Further desc: If an inbox has subfolders then they cannot be accessed (or the unread count be seen) in the "unified folders" view. In my case I am using IMAP - sent, draft folders etc are under/in the inbox. When using "unified folders" view - the inbox section does not show sub-folders for the account and - the Inbox is removed from the full account section further down the left pain. Therefore the sub-folders are not accessible. Seems to be a design decision per id=490691.

so, it is only the message count that is wrong? (Because the account folder under Inbox is including the subfolder counts?) Or, you really can't get to the messages? which would contradict Bug 516367 - Smart folders: Don't separate subfolders from their parent (inbox) folders. xref also Bug 516445 - Smart folders: handling of subfolders should be consistent (sent vs. inbox) according to bug 490691, subfolders of Inbox should be visible in the account. You cit all "special" names of sent, draft, etc. Are there any subfolders that are causing you problems that do not involve special names?

I did say a quick check. And this is not causing me problems because I stopped trying to use "unified folders" view nearly a year and a half ago. IMAP stuff was a bad choice. Tested on a POP3 folder and created a sub folder - the sub folder was left in the main tree but with no indication that it really resides under the inbox. This can give apparent duplicate folders if the same name is used in the inbox and and at the same level as the inbox. I still think it would be better not to remove the "special" folders from the tree under the account (or at least make it optional). Or make sub folders available in the special folder area. The original submitter found it confusing (and IIRC the subfolders were not left available at all back then) and I do agree with him. I will bow out now - I use saved searches to pull things together while leaving the account tree intact.

The reported bug seems to be fixed in Tb 5.0b1. New arrived, in subfolders filtered messages are now indicated in the accounts folder structure - no more in the unified inbox.

This just became a problem upon upgrading from version 17 to 24. I have two IMAP accounts, which I have called "Personal" and "Business." Under "Business," there are a couple of mailing lists ("Solosez" and "Probate") which are automatically filtered to their own subfolders. In version 17, if, for example, I have a new Solosez message, that folder is properly bolded and showing a new message. In version 24, both the "Business" folder and the "Solosez" folder show one new message, but the message is actually only in the Solosez folder. Quite annoying, and I've given up on the Unified Folders view for the time being because of this problem.

I am experiencing what I believe is this same issue upon upgrading from 23 to 24.

Oops, hit send too soon, sigh. What I am experiencing when upgrading from 23 to 24 is that Inbox will report that it contains unread messages, but the unread messages are actually in Junk or Drafts or some other folder that isn’t Inbox. In the previous version, Inbox would not have any unread messages, only the folder in which an unread message actually existed would be showing as unread. Now, both show unread.

Experiencing this bug in 24.3.0 on Mac OS. Pretty annoying even if you have just minor OCD. ;)
