Receiving an Usenet article with a not encapsulated FROM line a name like "Jens Müller" gets cropped in the arcticle header to "Jens M" and is not even displayed in the articles list. However: Not encapsulated SUBJECT lines with umlauts are displayed correctly.
Please look at the attached picture, that will explain it very clearly.
