On (my and by default) Mac, when choosing to 'save link', save file, etc. Dialog comes up to choose location. If I key Command-Shift-D to take me to the desktop (a mac o/s standard), that is also the key for New Bookmark Folder, which pops up modal, under the save link as dialog. Both become unusable. Have to force-quit. Not crash, just no way out.

Was going to report this but found there was an entry already. Mac OS 10.5.8 running Firefox 3.5.4. The Save As window is not selected automatically when saving downloads. Since the window is not active clicking command+shift+d to choose the desktop instead brings up the bookmark dialog box. Cannot save or cancel the download nor can affect the bookmark dialog box. Firefox is not hanging, but is no longer responsive and has to be force quit.

the picture shows the 2 dialogs open after I attempted a file save, and typed command-shift-D to move the save folder to the desktop, both dialogs become inactive.

Here is another example of it, as it has just happened to me again. I click on a link to a downloadable file, I want to put the saved file on my desktop, and forget the bug, so I press Command-Shift D. Is it possible it is Gmail? Is Gmail supposed to repress other commands when it allows modal dialog? It might only happen in Gmail.

I am really surprised there aren't more occurrences of this. And it still unconfirmed??!! Hello? Anyone? Still happens. Mac OS 10.6.3,

Choose "Save file as" file browser window comes up, keystroke command-D to navigate to desktop, Add bookmark window comes up but is inaccessible and now both are inaccessible.

I can't believe this is still an issue. I've been dealing with this for years, i can't tell you how many times i've had to force quit Firefox just because i tried to save to my desktop. I think at one point i just set the default to the desktop because the issue was never resolved. Since i recently updated to 10.8.1, i guess that got reset and it just happened to me again. Lost all the sites i was on. There should be a way to disable the Bookmark save as command-shift-D in Firefox, since it's the same shortcut in Mac OS X by default to get to the desktop.

I feel your pain. Although not so much. I've switched to chrome. Interestingly there is a similar issue with that browser. If I attempt to save a file and an alert modal comes up for a bank page time out or new mail notice for example, it results in neither of the windows being functional.

Still a problem (Firefox 15/OSX 10.8). The only one really that forces me to use chrome instead of firefox...
Please Mozilla, fix this issue.
