Win95 2000082508 I _know_ this must be a known bug, but I can't find a bug number for it. Mozilla currently doesn't give focus to a loaded page, even if the window had focus before the load. This requires constant clicking in the mozilla window so you can use page up and page down, etc. This is a major usability loss versus any other browser, and even in a beta may turn people off.
Of the 482 bugs mentioning "focus" in summary, i think this one qualify as a dup of bug 37638 "URL bar is given focus by default".
Sounds like bug 40606? *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 40606 ***

Bug 40606 is not the same as this bug - that's "when you type an address and hit enter, focus doesn't shift to the main window". Similar, and due to the same cause I'll bet, but nowhere near as critical as this case. bug 37638 is also not quite the same as this - that's about the URL being given focus when a new window opens (now note, they probably stem from the same bug, but I'd consider them different bug reports for now, and recheck as soon as one is fixed). Also, the behavior in 37638 seems to be being treated as a minor polish issue; I believe this happening on any page load is a major usability issue, IMHO. bug 47972 was marked as a dup of 37638; it's really a dup of this one (or vice versa). I'm re-opening this bug as a separate bug, even though the cause is the same (probably) as both bug 37638 and bug 40606 - neither of the effects of those are as important as the effects noted here. I also would suggest this for nsbeta3+.

Changing OS to Win95 - Now that I'm at work, I tried a 8/25/00 FreeBSD pull/build, and I don't see the problem. I did see it last night on 2000082508.
OS: All → Windows 95
Confirmed Win95 2000082808 (which seems to have major skin screwups having to do with modern2, but the problem is definitely there).

cc trudelle. Peter, isn't this a toolkit issue? My tests show that with recent builds (8/25-9/1) after a page load of any sort the page isn't given focus and consequently PgUp PgDn, and the Up and Down arrows don't work until the content area is clicked. I've seen this on all platforms with the exception being that on Mac the url field instead has the focus.

cc joki/saari. Tom, Chris is on vacation next week, so he probably won't see this for a while.
dup of bug 28580?
Yes, could be a dup of 28580. Please be specific about not having focus after typing in the url bar and hitting return vs. clicking a link Also note if frames are in the loaded page. I'm working on a fix for this, but pages with frames don't seem to be as good as they could be (deciding where to put focus in that case is difficult)
I'm pretty sure this is intentional to follow 4.x behavior on windows (if I remember correctly)
Intentional ? What kind of crack are you guys smoking, and can I have some ?
What about following 4.x behavior don't you understand? Everytime we change something from the way it used to work to something else, a bunch people cry out in pain and a bunch people who didn't like old way cheer. If you don't like the way it works, fine, but I distinctly remember deciding to follow 4.x here. It may well be a bug that this isn't working on Windows, however, someone has to decided what the "correct" behavior should be before we go and change the behavior. CC'ing hyatt and beng
There are two bugs here. (1) Focus should go to a page after hitting enter in the URL bar. This was fixed on Mac and Linux and broken on Win32 only. Now it's broken everywhere. I have that bug. (2) Focus should not be lost while traversing links. That's this bug. This was fixed everywhere and now seems to be broken everywhere. It is a bug, and we need to fix it.
both of these things work for me on Mac and linux (with a little lovin' from me), I don't know what Window's damamge is.
It's also broken on FreeBSD - did you try clicking on a link, letting the page load, and then hitting page-up or page-down? If it works, maybe it's due to your window manager?
That works (don't forget I have changes that I need to checkin to make linux focus better). running redhat 6.2 w. sawfish

In the last day or two, this seems to have been fixed. Perhaps related to the cursor fixes put in for editing text widgets?

FYI, should really close as wfm rather than fixed, unless an explicit fix was checked in.

My apologies - I forgot it was a Win95 bug (Since I was the one who determined that, I should have remembered).
Ok, this is driving me crazy. I have to fix it.
