User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Firefox/3.5.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Thunderbird/3.0b3 In Thunderbird 3 beta 3 my messages in my Gmail account will send but then I'll get an error from Thunderbird saying, "Unable to copy message to sent mail folder" and asking me if I want to try again. It will try again, but never succeed. This happens about one out of every two times, if not 2/3rds of the time, I try to send an e-mail through my Gmail account in Thunderbird, but doesn't happen through my other accounts. This problem did not occur in Thunderbird beta 2. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks, Hunter Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Compose message in Gmail IMAP account 2.Send message 3.After having sent, get "Unable to copy message to sent mail folder" error Actual Results: Get "Unable to copy message to sent mail folder", message not copied to sent mail folder, so no record of it having sent Expected Results: Do not get "Unable to copy message to sent mail folder" error, message copied to sent mail folder, recorded as such Software does not crash or produce other errors, but this is a really pesky bug as I am unsure if any of my e-mail is being sent.

> 1.Compose message in Gmail IMAP account > 2.Send message > 3.After having sent, get "Unable to copy message to sent mail folder" error (Q1) Is SMTP server used to send mail Gmail's SMTP server? (Q2) What folder do you set as "folder to keep copy of sent mail"? (Q3) Does IMAP folder pointed by (Q2) exist? > Get "Unable to copy message to sent mail folder", message not copied to sent mail folder, so no record of it having sent If Gmail's SMTP server is used, data of sent mail is always saved in "[Gmail]/Sent Mail"(and in [Gmail]/All Mail) automatically by Gmail & Gmail IMAP ("Sent Mails" *FOLDER* of Gmail Web Interface). Does your "so no record of it having sent" mean that Gmail/Gmail IMAP didn't keep copy in "[Gmail]/Sent Mail"? > 3.After having sent, get "Unable to copy message to sent mail folder" error Get SMTP & IMAP log with timestamp, and check IMAP level flow. > Getting log : https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging > Timestamp of log : Bug 402793 Comment #17 > IMAP command and response : http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3501 If Tb's fault is seen in log, attach log file to this bug(never paste).
(Q1) Is SMTP server used to send mail Gmail's SMTP server? No, it's my university's SMTP server (mail.wustl.edu) that I've used for 1 and a half years with Gmail IMAP in Thunderbird with no issues previously. (Q2) What folder do you set as "folder to keep copy of sent mail"? Sent mail (Gmail->Sent mail, same level as Gmail Inbox and All Mail directories) (Q3) Does IMAP folder pointed by (Q2) exist? Yes Does your "so no record of it having sent" mean that Gmail/Gmail IMAP didn't keep copy in "[Gmail]/Sent Mail"? Yes, there seems to be no record of it existing, although Thunderbird said it sent but did not copy. I set it to log for SMTP & IMAP, but I'm unsure of how to check IMAP level flow. Thanks for your help

(In reply to comment #2) > (Q2) What folder do you set as "folder to keep copy of sent mail"? Sent mail > (Gmail->Sent mail, same level as Gmail Inbox and All Mail directories) "[Gmail]/Sent Mail" folder of Gmail IMAP account? Or root level "Sent Mail" folder of other IMAP account? Or local mail folder of root level "Sent mail"? > I set it to log for SMTP & IMAP, but I'm unsure of how to check IMAP level flow. After passing mail data to SMTP server, Tb issues "append" command to "Sent mail" folder if IMAP folder, and tries to upload mail data of sent mail. Check whether error occurs or not around "append to Sent mail".
"[Gmail]/Sent Mail" folder of Gmail IMAP account? Or root level "Sent Mail" folder of other IMAP account? Or local mail folder of root level "Sent mail"? Gmail/Sent Mail folder of Gmail IMAP account, yes. Except I set the IMAP server directory under advanced settings as [Gmail]. I'll let you know what results I get when I get an error next time. Thanks again!

Does it mean that you created your own subfolders under [Gmail]?

I don't think so. They're the standard Gmail folders, except I follwed the steps <a hrf="http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1364385">here</a> to make them no longer a subdirectory.

Sorry to write to you, but I think that a get the same or similar problem. Actually if I configure TB3b3 with DEFAULT settings (using GMail SMTP) I get NO PROBLEM to "copy message to sent folder" If I change to my SMTP server (Sent folder) the error appears My SMTP server uses qmail / Courier IMAP / vpopmail If need, I can make a test account to test (If my comment doesn´t related with this topic, please ignore) Thanks
I also have this problem with Thunderbird 3rc1 and rc2. This was previously working in Thunderbird 2.x and the Thunderbird 3b4. Sent messages cannot be copied to my "Sent Mail" folder. At the same time, I can no longer use the Subscribe... feature. The list of folders in the popup never loads. I am still investigating if some settings have changed or could be modified. I am still able to view the contents of all of my subscribed folders, and I continue to receive new mail. User agent string from Help / About: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091130 Lightning/1.0b1pre Thunderbird/3.0
I seem to have corrected the problem (at least temporarily). The steps I took: 1) Open Tools / Account Settings... 2) Select Server Settings in my IMAP mail account. 3) Click the Advanced... button' 4) De-select the "Show only subscribed folders" checkbox. 5) Click OK, click OK. 6) Exit and re-start Thunderbird. All IMAP folders are now listed, the Subscribe options works, and sent messages are copied to the Sent Mail folder. I then undid the above changes to only have my subscribed folders, and restarted Thunderbird, and everything seems still to work. If the problem recurs, I will try to report the necessary details.

The saving fails if the main thunderbird window is closed and only the compse-window is open.
