1.Inbox in the Mail account is sorted by date in the descending order ie today's
messages appear at the topmost.
2.Expected result:The new arrived /retreived mails should also appear as the
sorting order ie at the top.
3.Actual result:The new mail , when it arrives, sometimes appears at the bottom
- after the oldest messages. So this amounts to sorting inconsistency )ie the
inbox is sorting by date but not down to the degree of time.)
This is probably all platforms.
Marking future, though.

I think this bug was not present in Mozilla 0.9, but it is now in 0.9.1.

In Mozilla 0.9.2 (2001062815) this bug doesn't happen always.
I really do not know the exact reason which makes this bug to happen, but
indeed, sometimes happens that the date sorting order is inverted.
In my case, I always like to have the most recent messages at the top of the
folder, but often I open the mail and the order has been changed.
Any idea?

I never saw this in the beginning when I began reading my imap IMAP inbox
through moz, but now I have this happening every second session on both of my
IMAP accounts. This after about 2 weeks of use.
I filed bug 129821 to report this. possible its peculiar to imap folders ?

This sometimes happens backwards, too.
(Set sort order to ascending and messages appear at top.)

I see this occasionally but can't find a pattern.
My mail view is threaded with new mail at the bottom of the threadpane.
Sometimes new mail appears at the bottom AND the top of the threadpane.
Currently I have mail dating back to 2000 in my inbox (imap). Sort order has
oldest mail at the top, newest at the bottom (ascending). Today however, new
mail is sitting at the top for some reason in descending order followed by old
mail in the expected ascending order and then finally some new mail at the
bottom.

this happens to me sometimes too (new messages arriving at the top when sorted
in ascending order). It only happens in release builds, which makes me suspect
some sort of unitialized variable reference.

This also happends when you use Newsgropus, extremly confusing.

To reproduce
1. Have only one message in Inbox
2. Have messages sorted by date in descending order
3. The next new message will appear at the bottom. Any new messages following
will be in the correct order.

This happens in Thunderbird 1.0 also. Today's messages (with just the hour) are
always at the top of the Date field, even if the order is supposed to be
ascending by date (so new messages are at the bottom).

As of today, using version 2.0.0.4 (20070604), I don't experience this bug anymore. It took this long to figure it out because I got in the habit of ordering my mail so that I would not be affected by the bug ;)
As far as I'm concerned the bug is fixed.
