User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 GTB5 (.NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.22) Gecko/20090605 Thunderbird/2.0.0.22 Build ID: 2009060502 An odd quirk about GMail is that when you send a message using your GMail account, it shows up in the IMAP sent folder on the server. If you send that e-mail with the read notification request flag on, TB then attempts to obey that when you simply view the message on the IMAP server. I think TB should ignore the read notification or have a preference in the account settings to do so when I am the sender. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Using a GMail account that you access with IMAP, send a message with the read notification request flag set 2. Visit the sent folder in GMail's IMAP system. 3. Select the message you just sent. 4. TB will popup a dialog offering to send it if you have it set to allow such notifications Actual Results: Sending a message to yourself with the read notification flag adds to the traffic TB deals with and interrupts the user by offering to send information they already know Expected Results: Recognize that one of my accounts (which might not be the one used to send the message) would receive the notification and skip it. Please note that I don't have a 64-bit build of TB. However, the versions of Windows I run IS 64-bit. My full config is below. (In reply to comment #0) > it shows up in the IMAP sent folder on the server. (Q1) Which folder? IMAP folder via Gmail IMAP / Gmail Label(or Gmail's FOLDER) (a) [Gmail]/Sent Mail = Sent Mail (b) Sent = [Imap]/Sent (c) xxx, or yyy under xxx = xxx, or xxx/yyy (user defined Gmail Label) (Q2) Which folder do you set as "folder to save copy of sent mail" for each identity? (Q3) Did you use Gmail SMTP server with username=xxx@gmail.com for From: address of yyy@gmail.com(other Gmail account) or ppp@aaa.bbb.ccc(no Gmail)?
Q1: Full path: Gmail/[GMail]/Sent Q2: All storage options are set to Local Folders Q3: GMail's SMTP server did upload the e-mails in question. However, technically, this would still be an issue if I sent from one account to another.
(Q4) Compare mail source of "Sent" of "Local Folders" with mail source of "[Gmail]/Sent Mail" for same mail. Mail like next, isn't it? >(Assumption) > identity-1 : mail-addr=xxx xxx <xxx@gmail.com> (username=xxx@gmail.com) > identity-2 : mail-addr=ppp ppp <ppp@aaa.bbb.ccc> (Other ISP's mail addr) (i) Mail in "Sent" of "Local Folders", copy of data passed to SMTP by Tb > Disposition-Notification-To: ppp ppp <ppp@aaa.bbb.ccc> > From: ppp ppp <ppp@aaa.bbb.ccc> (ii) Mail in Gmail]/Sent, saved by Gmail's SMTP+Gmail upon send(really sent mail) > Disposition-Notification-To: ppp ppp <ppp@aaa.bbb.ccc> > From: ppp ppp <xxx@gmail.com> (Q5) Same problem(dialog relates to MDN) occurs on mail of "From: <xxx@gmail.com>" which is sent via Gmail's SMTP using username=xxx@gmail.com? (iii) Mail in "Gmail]/Sent" == Mail in "Sent" of "Local Folders" > Disposition-Notification-To: xxx xxx <xxx@gmail.com> > From: xxx xxx <xxx@gmail.com> (Q6) Which dialog for mail of (Q4)? (a) "Return receipt to sender or not" type. "OK"/"Cancel" buttons. (b) "Notify the sender or not" type. "Send Receipt"/"Ignore Request" buttons. (Q7) If (Q5)=Yes, which dialog? FYI. In my quick test with Tb trunk, (b) was observed for mail of (Q4)-(ii) and $MDNSent flag was stored after reply of "Ignore Request". No dialog was observed for mail of (Q5)-(iii) and $MDNSent flag was stored silently. If same mail data is placed in local mail folder file of "Local Folders", dialog was not displayed even for mail of (Q4)-(ii). Next header was silently written. > X-Mozilla-Status: 0001 > X-Mozilla-Status2: 00400000
I just sent an e-mail from my Gmail account to another one I have. The headers are below with the actual adresses munged to prevent spam. I saw Read Receipt dialogs for both. However, I wasn't aware there were two such dialogs. However, I /think/ the answer for Q6/Q7 would be the first dialog. Mail data in which account's which folder? Dialog with "OK"/"Cancel" or dialog with "Send Receipt"/"Ignore Request" appeared for mail data in which account's which folder? Problem was for mail in "[Gmail]/All Mail", wasn't it. Call your two accounts w1@gmail.com and w8@mto.com. (I assume that each mbox is defined as independent account, ordinal setting.) Following occurs, when you send mail of "From: <w1@gmail.com>, To: <w8@mto.com>" via Gmail's SMTP using username=w1@gmail.com (1) Tb passes mail data to smtp.gmail.com. (2) Copy of mail data passed to smtp is saved in "Sent" of Local folders. (3) Gmail's design-1 smtp.gmail.com replaces From: header by "From: ... <w1@gmail.com>". So, if other isp's mail address or other gmail account's mail address is used, mismatch between Disposition-Notification-To: and From: can happen. (For mail comment #4, this mismatch won't occur.) (4) Gmail's design-2 {smtp.gmail.com + Gmail} saves sent mail data in "[Gmail]/All Mail" for username=w1@gmail.com, and adds Gmail Label of "Sent Mail". Then sent mail data appears in IMAP folder of "[Gmail]/Sent Mail". (5) smtp.gmail.com passes mail data to mto.com for w8@mto.com, and the mail appears in Inbox for w8@mto.com sooner or later. If different account of Tb, dialog at Inbox for w8@mto.com is very normal, because w1@gmail.com is requesting return receipt to w8@mto.com. Both are different mail accounts(different owners of different mailbox at server). Is identity of w1@gmail.com defined as main identity of account of Tb? If defined as non-main identity, Bug 257406 can occur at "[Gmail]/Sent Mail" of username=w1@gmail.com. (For mismatch between Disposition-Notification-To: and From:) If main identity, I couldn't see dialog for mail of the mismatch, in my quick check with Tb trunk. Dialog I saw in comment #3 was by Bug 257406(I checked with multiple identities defined.)
TB saw it in GMail/[GMail]/Sent Mail. The other copy was in my local folders Inbox (it's a pop3 account). I didn't check All Mail and wouldn't disturb that. I got the dialog for both copies. TB didn't create either copy. It does happen that my GMail account isn't my default. However, I think that if I have an account for any address that happens to be the sender's, we should skip all receipts. I also must point out that I see this problem when I send using GMail to anyone. I could send you mail and it would happen, again in GMail/[GMail]/Sent Mail.
Question again. Is identity of w...1@gmail.com defined as main identity of the Gmail IMAP account of Tb?
Yes.
Unable to reproduce problem, using mail in Gmail IMAP's folder. (a) Tb 2.0.0.23 Disposition-Notification-To: Dialog(OK/Cancel) a-1) main(and only) identity no dialog a-2) other account's identity no dialog (b) Tb trunk 2009/9/14 build Disposition-Notification-To: Dialog(Send Receipt/Ignore Request) b-1) main identity no dialog b-2) second identity dialog is displayed(Bug 257406) b-3) other account's identity dialog is displayed Do you use add-on relevant to return receipt? Do you set non-default value in next setting? > (Tools/Options/Advanced/General, Config Editor, Filter: mdn) > mail.mdn.report.xxx
I have a lot of addons as listed in the initial description. But I don't think any affect receipts. mail.mdn.report.enabled=true mail.mdn.report.not_in_to_cc=2 mail.mdn.report.other=2 mail.mdn.report.outside_domain=2
(In reply to comment #11) > But I don't think any affect receipts. I looked again the list several times. "return receipt" is sending a mail and identity checking is relevant to it. "Identity Select" and some others may have relation. Can you check with Tb's -safe-mode?
(In reply to comment #12) > Can you check with Tb's -safe-mode?
Whiteboard: [closeme 2011-03-21]
I haven't seen this in a long time. In part, I don't see that folder anymore. I think the new smart folders in 3.x might have helped there.
