User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: TB 3.0b3 and Shredder 3.0b3 A mac user told about a problem like this but it's not the same in my opinion. When I shut down my TB or Shredder, and my pc is not connected to the Internet, the gui shuts down normally. The process stay's alive using about 50% (dual core so 1 core is used) of my cpu. I noticed it when I tried to start the program after I did shut down earlier. I had a program running at night, the service kept running all night and a long time of the day. Always about 50%. You can reproduce it any time by opening TB and shutting it. The problem appears when the pc has no connection at the moment you shut TB. No difference if the connection was present at the moment you started TB. No data loss, but when using TB on a laptop the battery time dramatically decreases Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start TB (pc connected to Internet or pc offline, no difference) 2. Make sure pc is not connected to Internet (unplug cable, turn of wifi) 3. shut down TB Actual Results: The TB-process stays alive and uses 50% of the cpu (on dual core) Expected Results: stop the service I installed many plugins, but after I removed them all, it still happens.
Expected Results: stop the service must be Expected Results: stop the process

(In reply to comment #0) > Build Identifier: TB 3.0b3 and Shredder 3.0b3 TB 3.0b3 is sufficiently old, and many problems around network error, around termination are already resolved(I think Tb still has problems in your case though.) Could you please check behaviour of newest trunk nightly. > http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/ > http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1-l10n/ > Download win32.zip build. You can test by UNZIP only. Note: Gloda(indexer) is enabled by default around 9/14. It may produce performance problems. Disable it if you encountered problems such as high CPU usage or high memory usage. (Tools/Options/Advanced/General, Global Search and Indexer)
Hi WADA, Downloaded this version on 16-09-2009. Tested it for 10 days now. It seems to be fixed. Until yesterday. So it is not reproducible every time any more. The strange thing is, this time the problem occurred when I shut down while the Internet-connection was still alive. A problem I did not mention is that TB keeps taking bandwith so other programs that use Internet significantly slow down.
> So it is not reproducible every time any more. It sounds many related problems are resolved. If problem recurs, attach data for problem analysis such as log, trace, please. If you don't encounter problem for several weeks, close this bug as WORKSFORME, please. > The strange thing is, this time the problem occurred when I shut down while the Internet-connection was still alive. Some crash/wait/loop bugs relates to shutdown of Tb can be found. Followings are bugs picked up from search result for "Bug Summary contains 'shutdown'". > Bug 420744 Shutdown fails with 100% cpu load when auto-complete over LDAP is used > Bug 475280 Shredder crashed on shutdown [@ nsTransactionItem::Release() ] > Bug 479373 Hang on shutdown if there are outstanding SSL requests > Bug 494014 shutdown hang, high cpu, no open imap connections > Bug 517690 Thunderbird shutdown crash [@nsScriptSecurityManager::IsCapabilityEnabled(char const*, int*) ] If bug for same problem is found, add comment for your new findings, attach data for problem analysis, please. > A problem I did not mention is that TB keeps taking bandwith so other programs that use Internet significantly slow down. aoto-sync of Tb 3 is enabled by default for all IMAP folders. Disable auto-sync of some IMAP folders(set offline use=off for some folders) via Synchronizationo & Storage, Message Synchronization, "Advanced" button.
Status at this moment: Back to my first post. The same problem for several weeks now....
Just see that there is a Pre, so I will download this first en come back if the problem still exists
(In reply to comment #6) > Just see that there is a Pre, so I will download this first en come back if the > problem still exists actually it would be good for you to update the bug after testing, whether it does exist or doesn't. :)
Yes, that's what I wanted to do. Don't know why I didn't say so.
Merry, you are reporting this for windows, not Mac? another patch for bug 494014 has landed. please use ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/ and report results. if reproducible, attach stacktrace file to bug for *hang* per: Windows - https://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report Mac - https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Debugging_on_Mac_OS_X substitute THUNDERBIRD for FIREFOX as needed
Hi, still occurs. Tried to see a patern, but can't find it. Used the debug program for Win. This time Shiretoko crashed while the screen was visible (but with the same problems discussed in this treath. See http://www.merijnhofland.info/tberror/sheretoko.log Hope this helps. Don't know if this problem is related: When I start Sheretoko I get 3 popups asking for my 'master-key'. (all poping up at about the same time, 1 in front 2 behind sheretoko but getting in front when first disappears). typing my pass 1 time and removing the other popups is no problem. everything still works...

I cannot reproduce using wireless laptop and Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.2pre) Gecko/20100306 Lanikai/3.1b2pre can reproduce using safe mode and version 3.1? https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

Hi, The problem is still here. I did not see it in safe mode at the moment, but the problem is that it does not occur every time, so I have to use safemode for a week or 2 and that is no option.... Chrome is up to date, and no difference if it is used or not....
>The problem is still here. you mean, you see it also in v3.1? please list your add-ons (extensions). interestingly, this is the opposite of Bug 536700 comment 8

So at the moment I'm running 3.0.4 Seems the bug has gone, but I will report if I notice it again. So close / suspend it?
Maybe lightning made the trouble? It is not supported any more in this version.....
(In reply to comment #20) > Maybe lightning made the trouble? Not so small number of bug reports at B.M.O for hung/freeze/crash can easily be found by search with "bug summary contains lightning", for both open and fixed/duped bugs, via "Advanced Search".
Merry, is your problem still gone since comment 19? If it is not gone, please update to version 3.1, and get the information requested at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Shutdown_Hang

I do not get the errors anymore. (sorry for no response, I did not see the massage (18-08)) There has been an update for one of the mail-servers I use to contact. Maybe the problem was at the serverside, or it has been fixed in one of the recent releases.
