As you may or may not have noticed a number of other buttons also would have disappear from the toolbar as a result of bug 474523. Whilst I agree that it is a pain that you lost the mailview option forcing a change to the set of defaults was the only sensible way of making the change in bug 474523 work. You can easily add it back again (by right clicking on the toolbar and selecting customise).

Let me dupe this against bug 515715 as this fits the kind of case which could be resolved interactively by some sort of migration UI.
