Which "top bar" are you referring to?

The main "Tool bar" of TB3, the line just below "file edit view ...". Without having to customise it, by default, I could see a "view" tool that offers to select restriction to "unread". When i select view unread, I only see unread message of current folder. This selection is persistant per folder. You have to set it for each folder you want, then, if you go away, and come back, the view selector will remember. This, added to the "unread" view of the folder pannel, seems, to me, to cover your request. OK. I think this is the new quick filter bar in TB3.1. And maybe it depends on how your toolbars are customized. This bug, however, clearly is about faceted search (global search using gloda) and that the result window should other flags as a facet.

Jens: it's not the quick filter bar either. It's just the main toolbar which has been customized. Anyway, confirming. This seems like something useful, though maybe the sort of thing that belongs in an add-on? There's probably lots of value in faceted search filters as add-ons. I'm not sure how easy that'd be though.
