Sometimes, when return to Thunderbird window from idle, I see strange message list: white background and single message in it. And this message is not from INBOX, it is from other folder. I click to account root, then back to INBOX - the message list is restored, but the first message in the list got wrong content - from that message from other folder! It has right header (from original message was in INBOX in this place), but wrong content! If I then move this message from INBOX to some folder and then open this some folder - I see it there, but again corrupted - right header, but content from other message. Seems TB got it by Message-ID from search index, not from IMAP server. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: Don't know how to reproduce. But it happens several times in a day. I can turn on some log, if you need. In previous TB3 beta3 I never seen this bug.

Most often it is occured during EXPUNGE (folder compacting) command.

More on this bug: If first (disappeared) message in INBOX was large, and new (some message from different folder) was small, the text of this "new" message displayed with addition of other messages from different folders. With line "From" between them. I will add a screenshot.

Andrey, how long have you been using betas and seeing this issue?

I'm using Thunderbird 3 B4 one week (since 23 Sep), and see this bug every day. Before this I was using TB3 B2 several monthes (since 24 April) on this PC, and never seen this bug.

this hints at being similar to my current issue. (but I've seen mine before b4)

How to reproduce: 1. In the account settings select delete mode 'Mark as deleted' (instead of default 'Move to Trash') 2. Move few first messages from INBOX to other folder (messages in the INBOX get 'deleted' mark) 3. Select one of marked-as-deleted messages. 4. Click EXPUNGE button. Result: message list disappears (white background w/o messages), then click to other folder, then return into INBOX, message list shown, and one of remaining (not expunged) messages got wrong content (and keep right header), as on the screenshot.

expunge is the main issue, and so likely this is a dupe. I've been trying to determine which is the oldest, best bug to dupe to but not gotten there yet. Any suggestions of which bug to use?

If I disable mailnews.database.global.indexer.enabled option, the bug still happens.

I remember a similar issue that merge a message with headers of next in message list: now I can't find but I remember that was magnus in CC list: he can probably find it soon. ;-)

No. That bug (#54570) about some very old problem. But I'm using TB since v0.4, and never seen this bug (message list disappearing) before TB v3.0. Seems this is a new problem.
