Whenever I select a frequent item in the jump list, Firefox tells me it is already running.
I start Minefield from a desktop shortcut with "-P -no-remote"
Same for a task item, i.e. open a new tab or window

Jim would know more, but I suspect this because a) jumplist tasks actually launch a copy of Firefox.exe with a particular command line and b) you are running with -no-remote which prevents the implementation in part a from working.
That is what I figured but either way, if Firefox is already running then a new tab should just be opened for frequent and pinned items and especially for the 'Open a new tab' task.

Will look into it, must have something to do with no-remote. Shortcuts launch a new instance briefly which then detect and send a message to any existing instance.

The taskbar code isn't part of shell integration so moving to General since this is regarding browser/components/wintaskbar/WindowsJumpLists.jsm
