I'll start off with a practical use for this change:
The user is going to visit facebook.com.
Using the power of the mighty awesome bar, he/she starts typing facebook. While typing, the user mistakenly types faceboook instead of facebook. "Luckily", there were no results matching faceboook, and the last matching search (which was "faceboo") remains open, despite the content of the URL field which is "faceboook".
I've found myself mistyping sometimes, only to have go back and change the last letter I wrote just to get the page I was looking for to appear. I see no problems with this behavior, no currently available functions will be "compromised" and I can't think of any cases where the user would be bothered of this change.
Opinions, suggestions?
Reproducible: Always
There could possibly be an indicator which says "No results", with a line inbetween that and the results.

Nice idea for user error prevention, adding to the list of Places UI bugs for us to target.
