User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.0 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/3.0.195.38 Safari/532.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.23) Gecko/20090812 Lightning/0.9 Thunderbird/2.0.0.23 Mnenhy/0.7.5.0 Sometimes, when closing and then reopening thunderbird the open tabs are lost/closed Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. open messages in tabs 2. close thunderbird 3. start thunderbird sometimes all the tabs are gone, only folder lists and inbox open Actual Results: restarted machine, started thunderbird and only inbox and folder list opened Expected Results: all open messages (3) should have also been reopened.
Confirmed behavior in Windows Vista for TB 3. Tabs should be remembered when TB is closed and reopened when TB opens. At the very least should be an option.
Now using TB 3.03 Thunderbird loses tabs EVERY TIME I shutdown the computer without closing thunderbird first. Multiple PCs
I do not see this every time TB starts, but I have seen it the last three times I've tried shutting Windows down while TB was still running and it just (this boot) correctly restored my tabs when I explicitely quit TB before shutting Windows down.
My previous comment seems a little confusing, and the connection I thought I saw seems not to actually be there (that is I've lost tabs both when shutting Windows down with TB running and when closing TB before shutting Windows down). I went looking in my profile directory for the file which contained the tab data and found it (session.json), which I'm sure the people who know these things already knew. I was able to copy the file and then restore it the next time TB lost my tabs but I haven't yet determined whether the file gets broken or goes missing at quit time or is misread and destroyed at start time. I'm going to try to remember to check the file before I start TB the next few times and see.
I just quit TB and do not have a session.json file. I believe I have now seen things fail both ways, that is failing both at creating and at reading the session.json file (though I only vaguely recall having seen the other failure previously, so I could be wrong about that).

This issue still occurs. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100802 Lightning/1.0b2 Thunderbird/3.1.2 An email message crashed Thunderbird on open, I restarted Thunderbird and all my open message tabs were gone and the default three pain view had returned.
If I've got this all sorted out correctly, we should reopen this bug and make it block bug 408338, update the summary, and dup bug 590919 to this. sound right?
