build 2000092604 and earlier builds. Sidebar works fine in Navigator and IM, but it is blank in Mail and all other components. Click the "Tabs" button and the list shows with some tabs checked, but nothing appears.

I'm not seeing the problem using NT4, Branch build 2000-09-27-11MN6. John, can you try a new profile? What operating system?
Nino - when I chagne profiles, this problem goes away (that has been the case in the past, haven't double checked). Can you use the file that I attached, plug it into your profile, and see if you run into the same problem? If so, we know where the error lies and might come up with a way of avoiding it in the future. Can't force users to create a new profile everytime they lose My Sidebar ....

Using Branch build 2000-09-29-09M16: NT4 Matt: Please let me know what else I can do to assist. So far I tried the following: In my c:\winnt\profiles\nbaca.000\Application Data\mozilla\users50\new33 directory I renamed my panels.rdf file and saved John's rdf file into the same directory and renamed it to 'panels.rdf'. When mail launches the Sidebar is blank in Navigator and Mail. Selecting the Tabs button shows no panels to be checked. After exiting and restarting then the panels reappear as expected. Selecting the Tabs button shows a variety of tabs that can be checked. Based on John's description it doesn't appear that his panels reappear. Am I doing something wrong?
Can you compare johns rdf file to your rdf file once you restart the app? Maybe when it is getting saved something is getting written to the rdf file that corrects the problem. thanks

I was saving John's file incorrectly. I tried it again making sure I had the correct rdf file and received different results. - Saved John's rdf file to my system - Copied his file to my user directory (new22a) - Launched Mail and I'm seeing panels in the Sidebar. When the Tab button is selected I also see other choices to select. - After exiting I used Windiff to compare John's original file with the one in the new22a directory and they are the same.

I see this also on Mozilla 0.9.3 under WinNT4. Let me know if there's any information I can provide to help get this (quite annoying) bug resolved.

Can you duplicate this problem in a new profile? If so then please state the steps to reproduce the problem, thanks.

To Ninoschka Baca: Yes, I can reproduce it with a clean profile using 0.9.4 (build 2001091303) (although unlike the original reporter I don't see any "Tabs" button). To create a new profile I renamed the old "default" directory and started Mozilla. It asked me about profiles, I said "create a new one". The new one I called "Clean profile". Start Moz with that profile, click the envelope icon in the bottom left corner, "Cancel" creating any mail accounts. After these steps, the sidebar is nowhere to be seen, it looks just like when you've clicked the arrows to minimize it. Clicking the arrows to restore it just toggles the arrows between pointing up and down. Dragging it up reveals an empty pane (but *should* reveal the side bar IMO).

Mozilla build 2001-09-21: Linux RH 7.1 I can easily reproduce this with a Mozilla build but the Commercial Branch build appears ok.

I believe that this bug has something to do with the rdf file in mozilla. Need to look at mozilla panels.rdf for errors.
