A while ago my firefox started freezing when I opened a pdf attachment inline; saving it and viewing it externaly helped in most cases. Now it starts freezing when 'save this picture' too.
Its doesn't use any cpu and it won't repaint its window anymore.

This happenes just on my netbook, but its totaly reproducible with it.
i'll post a stack trace soon.

I first tried doing kill and run in gdb; then it would ask which application to view this with, and open xpdf. killing, running firefox without gdb, hitting the same pdf again, caused the block as shown in the second backtrace; since it seems obvious that this is the blocker, just the bt of that thread.

hm, in safe mode this doesn't happen.
i've now disabled all plugins, addons and reverted back to the default theme, but the problem still persists.
what else does it do?
Is for example firebug, yslow or noscript all "gone" if its in disabled state?

Wilfried, please let us know if the problem still occurs in Firefox 4.

If so, could you try reproducing it with a fresh profile?  Like so:
# mkdir /tmp/new-profile
# firefox -no-remote -profile /tmp/new-profile

Then install one of the add-ons you were using, then exit and start again:
# firefox -no-remote -profile /tmp/new-profile
Now try to reproduce the problem with this add-on.

Repeat that for every add-on you were using to find out which one is
causing the problem.  Thanks.

I've seen openoffice lock up weirdly when opened in iceweasel 3.5/3.6, this works flawlessly with Iceweasel 4.0.
But evince is launched in its own top level window now (even with the fresh profile thing you mentioned) so this is sort of "can't reproduce".
I guess the improved openoffice handling shows that its solved.
Ok, thanks for testing.  Please file a new bug if you have a reproducible
crash/freeze for us to investigate.
