If a user sets up Thunderbird for the first time and cancels through the Account Setup process, we throw up a blank Thunderbird.
The user has to go to the File menu to create a New Account or go to the Account Summary page and select Create a New account.
This should be more prominent.

When I cancel out in Lanikai, the Account Summary page is the thing that shows up. What build are you seeing a blank screen in?

In any case, Rafael's right that we can do better here. Bryan, if you think this is likely to be very high leverage, I'd be ok with this blocking, though I wouldn't hold the release very long to get this. Presumably, too, we could make more disruptive changes here if we did them before feature freeze.

This has always been the case.
Obvious remedy is to shut down TB and restart it. The account wizard will come up again, IIRC.
Additionally, it shows the Account Summary page, and there's a "Create a new Account...", I think that's about as obvious as it gets. We could special case that page and show only the "Create a new account" link in this case, but I don't think this is necessary, given that you can just restart, in case you're confused.

Doesn't clicking "Write" open up a new account wizard if you have no account?

We really want this, but after discussion with clarkbw, we wouldn't hold 3.1 for it, since we do already have a button, and don't have real data on how much it would help.

In general the option is available but I think it's a pretty landscape for finding it. Note the attachment, it's like a where's waldo of creating an account.
Either the user has to close and restart or try clicking things until something works - some of the buttons don't actually work.
If we wanted to do something I would think removing all the buttons except for 'Create an Account' would be fairly easy and beneficial. However that's just a guess so I don't think we would want to block the release on an experiment like that.

Wondering if re-ordering Accounts to be at the top with Create new Account as the first item might work.
This is where Test Pilot would help out a lot.

I shouldn't be the assignee for these bugs. Filter against clarkbfilter to delete all these from your emails.

I think this will be fixed as part of bug 713277.
When there are no accounts configured, the Account Central will show "create account" as the only possible action and even tell the user he should create an account.
Rafael, can you check out that patch if it does help you?
Depends on: 713277

OK, the instructional message is moved to bug 746095.
The reducing of the actions to only show the relevant ones (in this case "create account" is still bug 713277.

We also now have the hamburger. However, adding accounts is under "options" which seems to me not so intuitive.

Alex, do we adequately cover this situation today, or will shortly?

Yes, this was fixed by the first patch landed in bug 1589005.
I'm working on the second and final patch to complete that section.
