This might be a table positioning problem?
Summary: fool.com advertisement GIFs are shift down and right, exposing white background. → fool.com advertisement GIFs are shifted down and right, exposing white background.

Component: Layout → HTMLTables
Chris, the far left with the blue background is where the problems are. It's all nested tables, so I'm changing the component to tables

'fool.com' is serving different content to 5.0 and 4.5. I've attached the 4.5 content to this page for a consistent point of comparison; the attachment does demonstrate the reported 'reflow of tables' problem. (jun23 win95 viewer). Marking that bug #3688 '[META] content site userAgent sniffers don't respect mozilla/5.0 user agent' has a dependency on this bug.

cpeterso@cs.washington.edu : can you look at http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/showattachment.cgi?attach_id=561 and see if the reported problem exists on that page (5.0 vs 4.x). There were a couple of problems with the page served to 5.0, but that was just bogus HTML. I do see a problem with the 'toolbar' -- "Features", "Messages", etc. and perhaps that was what you were reporting --- I'm just not clear, so if you could update the bug report with your comments -- Thanks.
This issue still occurs in the June 30th builds (Mac, Win 95, Linux)
Moving to M9.

Whiteboard: requested more information from reporter → [TESTCASE]
Since there has been no additional comments from original reporter in two months I did a testcase illustrating what I think the reporter meant is the problem. First problem is <A HREF=""> surrounding image causing extra height. This is the infamous bug 5821. Second problem is <MAP> element causing a line break, this has been discussed in bug 7660 and in bug 11431.
Spoke to karnaze during bug triage today. Moving to M11. Not an M10 blocker.
With 1999-10-13-13-M11 on Windows NT, none of the layout problems discussed in this bug report are visible, and no extra spacing is apparent with either testcase. In particular, in the second attachment, "testcase with comments," the version of the fool.com page header with <A HREF> and <MAP> elements surrounding images looks identical to the version without either. Given the retirement of the infamous Bug 5821, and the progress on Bug 7660, this isn't surprising. Good thing about those testcases - the page at www.fool.com has been completely redesigned and now no longer uses <MAP> for the section buttons or <A HREF> around the image of the fool - whether it is served to Navigator 4.7 or Mozilla M11 .
Moving to M13.

With the Nov 11 th build, I don'tsee the problem described with the attached test case "06/27/99". Marking verifed works for me.
