Look at a list of messages sorted into a thread, where the middle message has attachments, sorted by date 2. Select that message 3. Detach some, or all of the Attachments 4. Actual Results: Notice how the list of messages re-order, where that message is now removed from the thread. Expected Results: It should not impact the order of the messages in the thread. Not sure whether to mark it Critical or Minor, Note that the typical "critical" - i.e. "Data-loss" Use Case is that for example an unaware user picks a message with attachments that they've replied to, detachs the attachments to work on later, then attempts to delete the original message, but in fact deletes their reply (which has swapped positions in the index).
Local mail folder(POP3, "Local Folders")? IMAP folder? Both? > Expected Results: > It should not impact the order of the messages in the thread. Possibly problem of bug 383985 is involved. As "detach/delete attachment" is "creation of new mail data and deletion of original mail", both next (a) and (b) is increased to largest one in the mail folder. "Order Received" column value : (a) local mail folder : offset in mail folder file (b) IMAP folder : UID of mail (c) News group : article number It's similar to (1) move mail to other folder, (2) alter mail data manually in mail folder file, (3) move back the altered mail. And, as "order of mails in a thread" is currently affected by "Order Received" column value(bug 383985), order in a thread is affected by move of mail between folders. > Actual Results: > Notice how the list of messages re-order, where that message is now removed > from the thread. Similar/same problem to/as known issue of "newly arrived mail is not listed in a thread"(at bottom, if ascending order is choosed), isn't it? > "Data-loss" Use Case is that for example an unaware user picks a message > with attachments that they've replied to, > detachs the attachments to work on later, > then attempts to delete the original message, > but in fact deletes their reply (which has swapped positions in the index). Does "then attempts to delete the original message" mean "user usually tries to delete wrong mail due to position change in a thread(remove of mail on which detach/delete is executed)"?
I've only noticed this in POP3 as I don't have News or IMAP folders. Maybe it would be better to do the order by Date rather than "Order Received" as there are plenty of other things that mean Order Received isn't the thread order - e.g. if a message is Archived and then Un-archived. Yes - in terms of the Data Loss, the user deletes the wrong message because the order has changed, and they still think the first message in the thread is the old one.
