When you install add-ons from a website like AMO and the add-ons manager is not open, the newly installed addons do not appear in the list of installed extensions. It can only be seen for extensions. It works fine for themes.

Steps:
1. Create a fresh profile and make sure the add-ons manager is not open
2. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6622
3. Install the extension

Open the add-ons manager and select the extension pane. As you can see the DOM inspector is not listed. But if the add-ons manager is open during the installation, the extension list gets updated.
Mmh also happens when the add-on manager is open. But as what I can see now, it's only for the first time. If you install the extension again without restarting Firefox it will appear in the extension pane.

Is this still true? Maybe this is what we're seeing in bug 566626
No, it works now. Should have been fixed by another patch.
