(Keywords: hang)

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_8; en-gb) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7
Build Identifier: (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100317 Lightning/1.0b1 Thunderbird/3.0.4

With IMAP accounts and drafts set to save to server, if you happen to go off line whilst trying to add an attachment with the "Attach file(s)" browsing window open, the message dialogue "Confirm there was an error copying the message to the Sent folder. Retry?" pops up when it tries to automatically save the draft to the server. This hangs the programme with you left not being able to close either windows nor add the attachment. Not the message dialogue is incorrect also, as it is trying to save the draft, not copy to sent folder.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Sep up save drafts to imap server.
2. Start new message,
3. Add attachment and browse for file
4. Make computer (not thunderbird) go off line
5. Wait for it to try and save to drafts
6. get stuck
3.add
Actual Results:
Both windows "Attach file(s)" browsing window and dialogue "Confirm there was an error copying the message to the Sent folder. Retry?" are stuck open with no way to close or move on.

Expected Results:
that you could close dialogue box and carry on with attachment

I have screen image of failure, though I can't attach to this bug. Contact me for it.
> Actual Results:
>(snip) dialogue "Confirm there was an error copying the message to the Sent folder. Retry?" are stuck open with no way to close or move on.

Confusing but "Sent" is fall back folder name when save to draft fails.
Is there "No" or "Cancel" button in the dialog?
If dialog box position is moved by mouse drag, are mutiple dialogs seen?
Does "No" or "Cancel" to all dialogs work?
yes all buttons there, on both windows, and can be moved, but clicking them is un-responsive. It's as if the browing for attachment window is the (forgive my laymans terms) lead window, but has been disabled by the dialogue box, which also will not react either. The browsing window allows you to move up and down the file system, but not actually add the attachment.
thanks.
I have observed the same behavior when my draft fails to save because I lack the proper S/MIME encryption certificate for one or more recipients (I sign and encrypt e-mails by default). I am also using IMAP, but think that may be irrelevant to the problem. The attachment browsing window remains in the foreground, with the cancel and OK buttons active and visibly responsive to button clicks, but clicking them has no apparent effect beyond "depressing" the button. The confirmation dialog for acknowledging the failed save is visible, and its buttons are active but do not respond to mouse events in any way. My intuition is that if the confirmation dialog captured mouse events, you could dismiss it and things would work again. Hope this helps.

I don't agree that it is a duplicate. The slow script dialogue is a different thing to the error copying to sent are different dialogues. Unless its the same piece of code underneath that is doing it, if you knew that perhaps you'd also know how to fix it?
I believe the root cause of the hang is the same, which bug 482811 is dependent on. SO perhaps I should have dup to bug 476541.
