Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100423 Thunderbird/3.0.4
After updating my Ubuntu to 10.04 I realized that my TB wasn't compatible with Enigmail.
So I tried updating it with the Add-on Manager.
P.S.: Here's the Error I got from the German
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100423
Thunderbird/3.0.4
>> "Enigmail" konnte nicht installiert werden, da es nicht mit dem
Thunderbird-Build-Typ (Linux_x86_64-gcc3) kompatibel ist. Bitte
informieren Sie den Autor des Add-ons über dieses Problem.
After discussing it with the developers of Enigmail, I found out that I used two different built versions.
Now, is it maybe possible two specify this problem with two different gcc builts in the error-message?
I was also told that this message is coming from the Thunderbird Add-On Manager. And I should report a bug here.
Here is some more info about my os:
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04
Codename: lucid
$ uname -a
Linux laptop 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:28:05 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Also my os is full encrypted with cryptsetup (I set it up before the update to 10.04)
As this is my first bug-report, I hope that I mentioned all the necessary information.
Stephan
Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Enigmail on Ubuntu 9.10
2. Update to Ubuntu 10.04
3. Try to Update Enigmail for the latest TB-version
Actual Results:
I got an error saying that it was incompatible with the installed built:
>> "Enigmail" konnte nicht installiert werden, da es nicht mit dem
Thunderbird-Build-Typ (Linux_x86_64-gcc3) kompatibel ist. Bitte
informieren Sie den Autor des Add-ons über dieses Problem.
Expected Results:
After realizing the wrong built it would have been nice that:
* the Add-On Manager would have sugested the right built version of Enigmail
* the Error Message would have mentioned the built difference of both (it just referred to TB and not Enigmail)
$ lsb_release -a

Stephan are you trying to install 64 bits versions of enigmail ?

I communicated with Stephan before he created the bug. The problem is not so much the error (even though I think that the Add-on manager should not have tried to automatically install an incompatible version of Enigmail), but the error message that is not easily understandable for users.

That's right

Yes, I got it up and running now. But the error was, like Patrick said, confusing at first.
I installed Enigmail manually with the following .xpi located @ http://enigmail.mozdev.org/download/download-static.php :
Comment: built using Ubuntu 9.10 with gcc-4.4.1

Sorry for the double mail.
Here is the exact filename of the working xpi:
enigmail-1.0.1-linux-x86_64-ubuntu.xpi

We do provide Enigmail in the Ubuntu archive. It is built for all archive arches except armel.

Thank you, I'll check it out on my next test-installation.

This error message is made more simple in the new add-ons manager, we just call it incompatible now.

Stephan, can you please reply all your steps by using a recent Minefield build and check if the changes are sufficient?
