If "http://mozilla.org" is in the mouse buffer, paste is OK. Without a schema ("http://") the paste has no visible action.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open an editor or console type "mozilla.org"
2. mark with mouse
3. open new tab, middle-click into empty space
Actual Results:
nothing visible
Expected Results:
Act as if "mozilla.org" + RETURN has been put into the address bar
This is the standard behavior in 3.5.9, in 3.6.3 and in probably every release before.

Not a duplicate, but bug 579570 may be of interest anyway.
