STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Start Firefox, using a profile that has a master password & has Firefox Sync installed. 2. Click Sync icon in status bar & choose 'Connect'. 3. Cancel the master-password dialog that appears. --> An exclamation-mark notification appears in status bar, and if I open it, it's a warning message with a single button for Sync preferences. 4. Open Sync preferences. (via the notification or any other way) --> The Preferences menu says "Failed to connect to the server", with two link-buttons next to it "Update" and "Reset" 5. Click the "Update" link-button --> Dialog appears, saying "Your secret phrase has changed, please enter your new secret phrase" & a single box 6. Cancel that, & click the "Reset" link-button. --> Dialog appears, offering to let me reset my secret phrase (locally). EXPECTED RESULTS: - Notification's text should ideally be more helpful ("Unable to get your Sync credentials, because the %APPNAME% password database is locked."?) - Sync Preferences should *not* give me an "update" button that tells me that my secret phrase has changed, because it hasn't. - Sync Preferences should *not* encourage me to reset my secret phrase. (this option is always available under "Manage Options", but there's no good reason to highlight it in this situation.) ACTUAL RESULTS: - Notification's text is "Error While Signing In: Sync encountered an error while connecting: Failed to connect to the server. Please try again." (note that in reality, the error was with looking up my credentials, not with connecting to the server) - Sync Preferences has misleading "Update" & "Reset" links, as described above. (though the most broken part is that the "Update" one is there, since that tells me my secret phrase has changed **when it has not**) I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.3a5pre) Gecko/20100608 Minefield/3.7a5pre with Firefox Sync 1.3.1pre (up-to-date, on beta channel)
Here's a screenshot of the Sync Preferences dialog, with the "Update" & "Reset" links visible, and with the "Update" dialog open (to tell me "Your secret phrase has changed, please enter your new secret phrase", which again is incorrect)
Note that if I actually follow the instructions in the "Update" dialog (in the screenshot above): - Once I press the "Update Secret Phrase" button, Sync re-prompts for my Master Password (presumably to store the phrase that I've just typed in, since the password DB is still locked) - If the "new" secret phrase that I've just typed is any different from my existing phrase, Sync tells me that I typed it wrong. - Once I've typed it correctly (or just canceled out of the Update dialog), everything's fine.
