There are some suggestions on the table for changing the registration flow currently in the Account Manager spec, see here for a general overview of the options: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Projects/AccountManager/Meetup/Analysis We could implement one of the suggestions there in the addon first to gather feedback, though depending on how quickly we get the Firefox patch up to speed we could prototype it in the patch as well.
