User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100628 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100423 Lightning/1.0b1 Thunderbird/3.0.4 There's a way to lock the keyboard completely in Thunderbird on Ubuntu, so badly that even Print Screen or Alt-Tab won't work. Ctrl-Alt-F1 still works, but I haven't found any way to resolve the deadlocked windows. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up an IMAP email account, 2. Set up LDAP enabling "secure connection (SSH)" 3. Install a personal certificate 4. In Preferences -> Composition -> Addressing, check all three boxes 5. Send a couple emails 6. Restart Thunderbird 7. Try sending an email to someone you've already sent to Actual Results: As you start typing in the To: field, TB autocompletes from the known addresses and autosuggests a list of matches. After about a second (at least on this machine) a User Identification Request window pops up, saying that "This site has requested that you identify yourself with a certificate:". Anyway, at this point there is no way to dismiss the popup window without using the mouse. Expected Results: The popup is clearly unnecessary, because the autosuggestion list already shows persons from the LDAP server that I have not sent emails to, so it should not show up. Of course, if it does show up, I don't expect it ever to catch useful shortcuts such as Enter or Alt-Tab. I have installed the Enigmail 1.0.1, Lightning 1.0b1 and Signature Switch 1.6.5 extensions. I guess this could be a GNOME bug, since it's related to window handling. Marking as critical since the entire desktop is unusable *unless* you use a mouse.

sounds Mac-ish :) ludo, should this go to security or ldap?

Victor, none of the other triagers commented, so it would be useful for us to know whether you can reproduce this using a current version of thunderbird (version 3.0.4 being over 1.5 years old)

I no longer have access to the LDAP server in question. Does someone know of an LDAP server where I can register my certificate to test this? Installing LDAP myself is not an option. Since it looks like nobody else has even tried to confirm this, how about setting it to WONTFIX instead?
The only ldap server I have access to doesn't support ssl, so I can't try to reproduce this either...
ludo can you hook this up?
