10/16 08 MN6 Not all the time, but sometimes, when clicking on the splitter between the thread pane and the message pane it gets confused about where it's supposed to return to. Set your splitter to a particular place click on it to close the message pane do some stuff (not sure if there's something tricky that triggers this) click on it to open it up again result: the splitter moves up about 10 pixels rather than giving the bulk of the window back to the message pane as it had been. NOTE: I do not need to leave mail, exit the app, close the window or any other such nefarious stuff. This happens within the same session, same mail window, and without minimizing or maximizing or anything interesting of that sort.

Build 2001-04-09-04: NT4, Mac 9.04 This seems to be working better for me. Steve, have you noticed this problem lately?

As I said, this is somewhat random. I *may* have found a way to repro it though. Using the 4/11 04 build, I went to my mail window and clicked the grippy a bunch of times to open and close it, then I double clicked a message to open it in a new window, then I clicked on the grippy and it went to the wrong place. (The mail compose window was on top of the 3 pane, but did not obscure the grippy. I clicked on the grippy without bringing the 3 pane to the top first.) Once it gets confused about its position, it remembers the new position across multiple opens and closes via the grippy.
Also, once you've managed to get into this state subsequent attempts to select messages from the thread pane fail to update the message pane. The only way to get them to paint is to close and reopen the message pane with the grippy again. (The only way I've discovered that is :-)
Are you using the regular 3pane or the alternate 3pane layout?
The regular 3 pane. I don't use the alternate.
Selmer, this bug has lain dormant a while. Do you still see the symptom with current builds?
Yes, I still see this sometimes even in the most recent builds (I'm using N7.1)

Never noticed this in this day and age, and no real steps to reproduce. (And I don't think it'd be NT-only.)
