Currently, a new window will contain it's own separate TabCandy items which can be puzzling when you first experience it ("Where did all my stuff go!?"). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: The easiest way to reproduce is right-click any link and open in New Window, then view TabCandy. Actual Results: Nothing but the New Window you just opened is listed.

Assigning to Aza for design. I believe our plan to have TabCandy manage tabs across all windows is a better solution.

Quick question: under what circumstances does Firefox open a tab in a new window? It may still be useful to move some of those windows (particularly those coming from clicking a link) to a group.

the user can force a link to open in a new window via the context menu, though some links (like the 'feedback' button in TabCandy) have their target set to a new window.

My concern about opening a new group instead of a new window in such circumstances is that it would be a very bad introduction to TabCandy for people who weren't aware of it. Basically they click on a link and all of a sudden all of their other tabs are gone, and there's no other window to find them in; they have to know to enter TabCandy.

This makes me wonder if we should have "Open tab in new group" as a context-menu option. re: Ian's tabcandy bomb. We could wait until after they've demonstrated Tabcandy use before inflicting it upon them. That said, it is probably the right thing to do for now to let open in window continue opening in a window.
