Details
(Whiteboard: OBSOLETE?)
right now, we have at least two implementations of code that creates a random
sequence of strings. right now, at least two implementations use this
for creating a hard-to-guess filename. the code's use is not limited to filenames.
we should move this code into one place, and generalize it for creating a string
of random "safe" ascii characters.
