User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100802 Thunderbird/3.1.2 My inbound emails with word.doc attachemnts are disappearing from the message body. Before opening the actual email message, the "paperclip" icon symbol for an attachment is clearly visable! After clicking the actual message, the attach word.doc disappears--Poof--GONE. Nothing! I close the message and then the attachment icon is now gone and its as if the attachemnt is now also gone! This primarly happens with word.doc and when only one or one or more word.docs are attached Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Its random and intermitant 2. started last week and I did not change any settings in Tbird I have tried to 'reset' options to default status I have treid to select and de select "view attachments in line" with no fix I have tried to re select default open with MS word in Tools-Options-save to desktop-always ask
Do you have an antivirus ? Could be quarantined ?
I have completly removed AVGFree--but this was happening whether on not I had it "active" but I have removed it completely form my system I've also re installed TB 3 times hoping this will help but no improvement--2 more messages with attached docs dissipated today and 1 got through! Im also experinece an increasing amount of TBird "Crashes" It always happens when spell checking (f7)Happens about 2 times per week Any chance this could be related?
Also a follow up note--I checek with my ISP to confirm no spam assin or other programwas stripping at the server level-- No abnormal performance reported at the server level (hostmonster.com)
Summary: word.doc attachemnts dissappaearing → word.doc attachments disappearing
(In reply to comment #2) > I have completly removed AVGFree--but this was happening whether on not I had > it "active" but I have removed it completely form my system First of removing, do you have check if this *.doc attachment was in quarantine area? Could attach here one of this email that has this issue (use above "Add an attachment")?
Thats a great idea--however, all the attachments contain propriatary corporate information--so Im afraid I cant share. I think Im going to revert back to an earlier TBird 2.0 version--never had these probs before
We can't really investigate if we can't see an example message - Anything in tools -> Error console when it disapears ?

Nope! Nothing!
I have the same problem, am uploading part of the offending mailbox file. The attachment is there, but tbird doesn't see it.

This mbox contains an attachment ignored by thunderbird. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100818 Lightning/1.0b2pre Thunderbird/3.1.2
WOW--I'm not crazy after all! Someone else with the same prob! I just uninstalled TB 3.0 and reverted back to version 2.0.0.23 (20090812) Just did a few test files and all seems back to normal now. New is not always better. Another minor issue I had with ver 3.0 was the f7 spell checker would occasionaly lock up and I'd have to Control Alt Delete end task--lost lots of man hours haveing to re-write emails due to TBird freezing up and becoming non-responsive. As of this moment, I am HAPPILY back to Ver 2. (And a BIG BIG Thanks to Moz team for clear threads on how to uninstall and re install older version--THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU! Life is good again!)
Additional note: All the "disappeared" attachments come from the same person, who is using PC-Eudora v. 6.2
