App Tab address bar should be locked. I always accidentally modify the address of the App Tab, which renders the purpose of having an App Tab useless.
Also, even though the close button in an app tab is not available, you can still close it by pressing ctrl-w
I do these things instinctively as I am used to using normal tabs
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create an App Tab
2. Change the url in the address bar of the App Tab
3. Press ctrl-w to close the app tab
Actual Results:
URL on the Address Bar changed on the app tab
App Tab was closed
Expected Results:
URL on the Address Bar should not be changeable
App Tab should not be closed

Please only one issue per bug report. The closing one is already covered by bug 580638. So leaving the locking of the location bar for this bug.

Rather than locking the address bar, which could be confusing, would it not be better to just open the url in a new tab as proposed in bug 598587. This would be consistent with the search bar, bookmarks and external links which already open in a new tab.
I suggest to hide address- and bookmark-bars completely in app tabs, or at least to provide the option to do so for each app tab, since i don't intend to change the location in this case.
I have a 15 inch 16/9 display, so I don't have much "vertical space".

it's long been our position that app tabs should be chromeless by default

Asking for blocking because it's really easy at the moment to navigate away from the loaded page, which has been set as app tab.

Bug 598587 already is blocking+ and the functionality here is slightly conflicting. This bug is asking for the URL to become effectively read only thus removing the ability to conveniently access awesome bar functionality, and is potentially confusing. Bug 598587 merely opens and results in a new tab so preserving the app tab contents.
Is ux input required here? Note Limi has already provided input in bug 598587 comment 9.

In the future normally app tabs won't have visibile chrome, but if they do, it's important that the location bar launches into a new tab. The main reason for this is the home tab (which will have a location bar). If we locked the location bar for app tabs (and there was only a home tab), it would become impossible to browse to another page on the web :)

Bug 598587 is what we want to do when App Tabs have browser chrome, and bug 580638 covers closing behaviour. The ultimate solution is to remove browser chrome (in a future release) not to lock it.
This is WONTFIX.

(Warning: I'm not a UX guy. I have bad taste.)
I entirely agree with this comment.
The location bar is useless to me in an App Tab, provided that all links will be opened outside of that App Tab.
Not only is the Location Bar the main way that I lose my App Tabs (to the point that I have given up on App Tabs), but it also uses screen space in a way that's not useful to me.
