I don't think this will get implemented, since there's no clear benefit (unlike the name, the color of the button shouldn't confuse people into thinking they're running Firefox) and there is a cost to this change. Not sure who can be the decision maker in this case, CCing limi.

I believe Faaborg already filed a bug on having a different color between nightly builds, official builds and possibly private browsing mode.

it currently changes color for private browsing mode :) #youshouldusewindowsmore
Let's keep this bug open for changing minefield's color, but I think we should go with black because that seems more "nightly"
>there's no clear benefit
Similar to the icon being a bomb, you could make a case that we want the nightly builds to feel different enough from the mainline product so that mainstream users have their expectations correctly set. But expectations are hard to quantify, so I'm going to go with the benefit being that a black button would look cool.
cc'ing Dao since I think there are some issues with having selectors in place that can actually detect if the button exists inside of a nightly build.
Summary: in Minefield make the Firefox button blue → in Minefield make the Minefield button black

The problem here is that nightlies would stop testing the styling that we're going to ship.

We would of course want to check the styling in betas and before shipping (just as we check different brand names and icons). So it's not like we are taking on a massive amount of risk by doing this one mostly superficial tweak. Also, it will help our nightly users feel special and elite.
